We install and replace Elite access control systems throughout San Francisco, with most complete installations or replacements running between $1,800 and $4,600 depending on your gate type, wiring condition, and whether we’re adding features like keypad entry or phone-based access. We carry Elite-compatible keypads, control boards, receivers, and safety photo eyes on our trucks, and we can usually diagnose the failure the same day you call. The typical call starts the same way: a keypad that worked fine last week now beeps but won’t open the gate, or a gate that opens on its own at odd hours, or a remote that suddenly stopped talking to the operator. That’s almost always the access control system, not the gate motor itself.

If you’re dealing with an Elite access control failure, the short version is this: we install Elite-compatible access control installation and can usually have a technician at your San Francisco property the same day. Call (628) 227-2771 for a free estimate.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite access control systems come in a few distinct families, and matching the right part to your model matters more than people expect. The Elite SL-3000 and SL-3000UL are the sliding gate operators we see most often in San Francisco, usually paired with the Elite keypad or a separate access control receiver. The Elite CSW200 and CSW200UL swing gate operators use a different control board layout and a different wiring harness, so a keypad that works on one will not simply plug into the other. If you still have the metal plate riveted to the operator arm or the inside of the control box, the model number is printed there. If that plate is gone, take a photo of the control board and send it to us before you buy anything; we can identify the board revision in about thirty seconds. For Elite specifically, we recommend OEM control boards and photo eyes. Aftermarket boards exist, and some are fine, but Elite’s board revisions changed enough between 2014 and 2019 that a generic replacement can leave you with a gate that opens but won’t respond to the safety edge. We stock both OEM Elite boards and the keypads and receivers that pair with them, so we’re not going to push you toward a part that half-works.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad lights up but the gate won’t move. This usually points to the access control relay on the control board, not the keypad itself. On Elite systems, the relay is a small rectangular component on the board that clicks when a code is accepted. If the click is there but the gate doesn’t respond, the relay contact has worn out. If there’s no click, the board isn’t receiving the signal.
- The gate opens on its own, or opens and then reverses partway. On Elite operators, this is often a photo eye that’s misaligned or a control board that’s picking up stray signal from a nearby radio source. San Francisco’s hillside neighborhoods with their mix of older power lines and new wireless systems can make this worse. Sometimes the fix is realigning the photo eye; sometimes the board needs to be swapped.
- One remote works, the other doesn’t. Elite remotes are coded to the receiver on the operator. If one remote works and another doesn’t, the receiver is almost always fine; the second remote has simply lost its programming or its battery contact has corroded. San Francisco’s damp air near the Sunset and Richmond districts does this to remote internals faster than people expect.
- The keypad works but the gate won’t open from your phone or wall button. This points to a wiring issue between the access control device and the operator terminal strip, not the access control device itself. On Elite boards, the terminal strip connections for hardwired inputs are labeled, and we find loose or corroded terminals on about a third of these calls.
- The gate makes a long beep or no beep at all when you enter a code. On Elite keypads, a long beep without movement typically means the keypad is sending a signal but the operator isn’t returning confirmation. That’s a communication failure, not a keypad failure, and it usually traces back to a failing control board component.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For San Francisco homeowners, a complete Elite access control installation or replacement typically runs between $1,800 and $4,600. A keypad-only replacement is the low end: around $180 to $380, installed. A new access control receiver system with remotes lands between $450 and $800. A full control board replacement on an Elite SL-3000 or CSW200, including bench testing and voltage checks on the operator motor, runs $650 to $1,400. A complete new access control installation, including keypad, receiver, photo eyes, wiring, and the operator control board, sits in that $1,800 to $4,600 range depending on how much wire pull is required and whether we’re adapting an older gate. Every one of those numbers is a written price you’ll see before we touch anything. The price includes the part, labor, a cleanup pass, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise on the whole job. If we install it and it isn’t right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before calling: confirm the keypad is getting power, replace the remote battery, and look for loose wires at any exposed terminal strip. What you should not do is open an Elite control box and start probing terminals with the power live. Elite operators run on 115V at the board in most configurations, and the capacitor on the motor circuit holds charge long after you’ve unplugged the unit. A wrong touch on that board means a serious shock, and a wrong wire landed on the wrong terminal can fry the board itself, turning a $200 repair into an $800 one. The honest split is this: if the problem is a dead remote battery or a keypad with an obvious loose connector, that’s a five-minute fix for anyone comfortable with a screwdriver. If the gate is opening on its own, the keypad isn’t responding, or you hear a hum but no movement, call (628) 227-2771 and let one of our technicians handle it. We’ll give you the written price before we start, and we’ll leave your floors the way we found them.
FAQs
Most Elite access control boards and keypads last between 8 and 14 years in San Francisco’s climate. The biggest factor is moisture, not usage. Homes in the Sunset, Richmond, and other coastal-heavy neighborhoods tend to see corrosion on board terminals sooner than homes in drier parts of the city. If we can, we’ll seal the control box properly, which buys you a few extra years.
Sometimes, but not often in a way that holds up. We can replace individual relays and a few other board components, and we do that when the board is otherwise in good shape. But when a board has multiple failing components or visible corrosion on the traces, replacing the whole board is cheaper over three years than nursing it along. We’ll show you the board before we recommend anything, so you can see why we’re making the call we’re making. Call (628) 227-2771 and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Most access control replacements, keypad-for-keypad or board-for-board, take between one and two hours on site. A full new access control installation with new wiring, keypad, receiver, and photo eyes takes a full day in most San Francisco properties, and we’ll tell you the timeline before we order parts or start work. If access matters for your kids getting to school or your dog getting into the yard, tell us and we’ll keep you informed on timing.
We stock Elite-compatible keypads, receivers, remotes, and control boards on almost every truck, along with photo eyes and safety edges. If we need something we don’t have, we can usually have it within a day or two through our supplier network. The most common Elite parts are already on the truck before we arrive, because the trucks serve San Francisco homes daily, and this is the kind of job that shows up without much warning. To confirm before we roll, call (628) 227-2771 with your model number if you have it.
